Fixing the slanted smile• Restoring symmetry to her smile
Patient Goals:
My patient’s biggest insecurity about herself was how her teeth and smile were all tilted to her left. Her dental midline was not parallel to her facial midline – it was tilted. Additionally, all her teeth slanted to her left, and so when she talks, the teeth on her left stick out more than her right side. She also did not like how her teeth looked from the side and how they looked like “shark” teeth.
Smile Analysis:
There were several things that needed to be addressed to achieve her goals. Please see annotated photo to visualize what I’m describing:
- She was missing two teeth on her left side, which contributed to her teeth being slanted.
- Her teeth were all tilted to her left.
- Her dental midline did not align with her facial midline.
- Because her teeth were tilted to her left, it affected her bite. She had jaw pain and did not know where to place her teeth when she bit down.
- Because of the asymmetry in her smile, her right side teeth protruded much more than her left side. This means the right side teeth were sticking out more than her left side teeth.
- Because of her tilt, her teeth, viewed from the right side, looked like shark teeth.
- There was general staining and discoloration across the smile.

The vertical line shows her facial midline and the horizontal line is parallel to her interpupillary (eyes) line. From this, you can see her teeth are all tilted to her left, and her right side is longer and more protruding than her left side.
Treatment Plan:
- 12 upper porcelain veneers and an implant crown
- When she smiles, she has a wide smile and shows most of her upper teeth. The only way to address her concerns about her tilted smile and protruding teeth is to do all her upper teeth that she shows.
- By doing 13 teeth total (including the implant crown), I can fix her tilt, the shape of her teeth, the gaps, and ensure her bite is still functional and healthy.
- If I treated any fewer teeth and I tried to address her issues, it will result in unproportional teeth and an unnatural look.
Results:
What we achieved with the final results:
- With the final veneers I was able to reshape the teeth so she no longer has spaces on her right side that she used to have and made her teeth look like shark teeth
- I shaped the teeth on the right to ensure that when I place the final veneers, they protrude less than her original teeth did.
- By doing veneers on all her upper teeth we aligned her teeth with her facial midline and her teeth no longer tilt to the left
- Her smile is overall more symmetrical, brighter and fits perfectly with her face.
The results are beautiful and she is so happy with her smile! I worked closely with the ceramist (who is one of the best in the country in my opinion) to make sure the final veneers not only achieve all her goals but looks just like her natural teeth, only better. I’m so happy for my wonderful patient! I have known her for a while now and she has been on Invisalign since before I met her, and Invisalign could not achieve her goals. I’m so happy that with veneers we were able to achieve her dream smile in just 3 weeks!
